Introduction

This project focused on understanding and preserving Nepal’s vernacular built heritage in two culturally significant regions—Udayapur Valley and Dudhauli of Sindhuli district. The study aimed to document the traditional settlement patterns, construction techniques, indigenous materials, and cultural practices associated with residential buildings that have evolved over generations.

This study contributes to the growing need for heritage preservation in Nepal by creating a detailed architectural and cultural record of traditional settlements before their rapid transformation or loss. The findings and recommendations from this project will serve as a foundation for future conservation, adaptive reuse, and community-based resilience efforts.
